The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) held their 2012 Annual Convention at the Homestead in late January. John Long, VP of Estimating at Lantz Construction, completed his term as Chairman of the Virginia AGC Chapter and the new Chairman was sworn in for the upcoming year. The AGC has been in existence since 1918 and has grown to include over 90 Chapters and 30,000 participating firms nationwide, including general contractors, subcontractors and specialty contractors. Lantz Construction Company attended the 94th Membership Meeting & Regional Greater Good Awards Banquet in Winchester, Virginia the last Friday of January. The yearly event organized by the Top of Virginia Regional Chamber hosted a reception, dinner, and silent auction. Annual awards were presented in numerous categories: Outstanding Entrepreneur - Todd Drunagel of Tech Team Solutions; Small Business Award - Our Health; Large Business Award - Blue Ridge Hospice; Outstanding Citizen Award – Patricia Taylor. Lantz Construction served as Silver Sponsors of the yearly event.
As a subcontractor on the renovation of the Wayland Hall dormitory, Lantz Construction Company is proud to have been a LEED contributor by procuring and installing FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified wood for the carpentry facets of the project – including foldable door systems, wood framing, and decking over canopies. Lantz also installed visual display boards, stage curtains, bath partitions, and fire extinguisher cabinets – each manufactured with recycled materials. The JMU dormitory is the first renovated residence hall in the U.S. to receive LEED platinum status; it is the fourth LEED platinum dormitory in the nation.
Lantz Construction Company served as table sponsors of the 2012 Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce banquet. Several Lantz departments were represented at the dinner, including: Estimating, Sales, and Project Management. Annual awards were given out as well. Keith May of Kline May Realty received Entrepreneur of the Year and Dr. Linwood Rose, President of James Madison University, received Business Person of the Year. Lantz Construction Company has been a member of the HR Chamber of Commerce for over 45 years.
A Pre-Session Legislative Breakfast 2012 was held at the JMU Festival Conference & Student Center on Tuesday, December 13th at 7:30am. The breakfast gave area businesses the opportunity to discuss economic issues with local legislators. In attendance were Senators Mark Obenshain and Emmett Hanger as well as local delegates. The breakfast was presented by the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce, JMU's Research and Public Service, and the Shenandoah Valley Technology Council. Chris Weaver, CAO of Lantz Construction, served as moderator for the event.
